Description

Brixen granite is one of the most traditional natural stones in South Tyrol. Due to its properties (frost resistance, hardness) it has always been used in construction (floors, stairs, solid steps, facing, wall stones) or also for fountains or other massive designs.

Granite is a deep rock (pluton), which is formed below the earth's surface by the solidification of molten rock (magma). Granite, like phophyre, is therefore an igneous rock. The difference in the formation of these rocks lies in the cooling time. While porphyry cooled relatively quickly at the earth's surface (volcanic eruptions), granite cooled much more slowly at a depth of about 2 km. This gives the crystals time and peace to grow and results in the ordered and clear structure of the granites.

Use

Brixner granite is frost-resistant and versatile. For example, as steps, window sills, flooring or fountains. Quarrying: In the Eisack Valley, Brixen granite is the local rock. Not only because it has always been used a lot, but also because it is at home there and is recovered during excavation work. The Brixen granite is therefore not extracted in a quarry and is therefore an erratic rock.
