Description

Gold was already being mined in the rivers of the Val Passiria in the 12th century. The search for this stone can be compared to that. If gold used to be found in the riverbed of the Passer, today one finds blocks of this silvery glimmering rock. Its aesthetic attractiveness is enhanced by the dark red inclusions (semi-precious garnets).

Since 2013, the Passeir gneiss garnet has been quarried in the Langwies quarry in the Passeier Valley.
