Description

The Magician

Age: 60 million years (time of Alpine folding)

Special feature: large garnet inclusions

The drawing of the metamorphic rock describes the passage of time over millions of years. Depending on the surface treatment, you can also experience the "flow of time" haptically. By brushing the surface with diamond-tipped tools, the soft minerals are "brushed out" and the harder parts remain raised. Once you touch this surface, you almost can't let go of it.

The red garnet inclusions are considered a special feature of this magical stone. This gemstone, surrounded by the silvery shimmering ground mass, has long been valued as a protective and decorative stone by a wide variety of cultures around the world.

In Greek mythology, it is part of the legend of the abduction of Persephone by Hades. The Vikings used garnet jewellery as a grave decoration to light the way to Valhalla for the dead, and crusaders wore it on their armour because it offered them protection.

Since time immemorial, garnet has been attributed with magical powers and healing effects and was also a very popular gemstone for traditional costume jewellery in German-speaking countries.

The Raben stone is an erratic boulder and only available in limited quantities. This makes this magical stone absolutely unique. Due to a rockslide, a stone of about 45m³ and weighing about 130 tons came down to the valley. After visiting the rock, we sawed the stone into transportable blocks with the diamond wire saw.
