Siusi allo Sciliar
Ground, polished, brushed, water-blasted, sand-blasted.
According to research, the word basalt could come from the Ethiopian word "bsalt", which means "cooked".
This word origin would certainly be significant for this lava rock. Because on closer inspection, the "rock soup" still seems to be boiling.
The rock type basalt is an absolute exception in South Tyrol. It is normally only found on the main ridge of the Alps and thus in much higher regions than was the case in Siusi allo Sciliar.
The discovery of this material was pure coincidence, as the Seiser basalt came to light during excavation work for the new Seiser-Alm cable car.
Its formation is also a mystery and geologists familiar with the area can only speculate. It seems that the Seiser Basalt made its way through the limestone layers of the Dolomites to reach the surface.
The Siusi basalt comes in two different variations.
Seiser Basalt Kristall
This dark green to black natural stone with reddish or brown colour nuances captivates with its grown crystal inclusions and has a very strong character.
The Seiser Basalt is the only basalt in South Tyrol and therefore a true interior design jewel.
ABBAU: The Seiser Basalt is an erratic boulder (see picture documentation). The Seiser Basalt is the only commercially available basalt in South Tyrol.
High-quality designs in the interior; also suitable for solid work; application examples: Floor coverings, bathroom designs, facades, kitchen worktops, buffet tops.
