South Tyrol - Siusi allo Sciliar
Ground, polished, brushed.
According to research, the word basalt itself could come from the Athiopian word "bsalt", which means "cooked". This word origin would certainly be significant for this lava rock.
Because on closer inspection, the "rock soup" still seems to be boiling. The rock type basalt is an absolute exception in South Tyrol. It is normally only found on the main ridge of the Alps and thus in much higher regions than was the case in Siusi allo Sciliar.
The discovery of this material was pure coincidence, as the Seiser basalt came to light during excavation work for the new Seiser-Alm cable car. Its formation is also a mystery and geologists familiar with the area can only speculate. It seems that the Seiser Basalt made its way through the limestone layers of the Dolomites to reach the surface.
Seiser Basalt is available in two different variations: Seiser Basalt Crystal and LoungeSeiser Basalt - Lounge
This slightly lighter variation of the stone, has a calmer and more elegant appearance. Nevertheless, you can recognise the basic rock and its temperament cannot be hidden.
Its colour is greenish, characterised by the black augite inclusions and its white quartz veins.
