Bolzano porphyry

This material has a very special history.
During excavation work for an extension on the Hölzlhof in Moritzing near Bolzano, rocks were encountered. At first, an attempt was made to remove the stone by chiseling. This caused damage to the old existing farmhouse.
We were called to inspect the stone. After the inspection, we decided to cut out the rock using the mobile diamond wire saw. In the process, the rock was removed in such a way that the wine cellar of the Hölzlhof now has a real rock floor. In addition, the Bolzano porphyry was used in the new building in the staircase, for window sills, in the bathroom and as a kitchen worktop.

The Bolzano porphyry has the predominantly reddish hue of the Bolzano porphyry slabs. it is an erratic boulder which was recovered from a farm as described.
This porphyry has a very strong character, which is underlined by the untypical white inclusions.
